‘Gaining Clarity Through PLCs’ webcast tomorrow at 9 a.m. ET
Join the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) live 9 a.m. ET Oct. 17 to take a closer look at the importance of teacher clarity around the standards and how professional learning communities (PLCs) can support this work.
You can access the live webcasts by going to the KDE Media Portal and clicking on the EdCast Video icon at the bottom of the page. The livestream will be on the “Home” tab. You can get your questions answered during the webcasts using GoSoapBox with the access code: KAS.
An archive of the webcast and slides will be made available on the Standards Webcast webpage shortly after the original air date.
This is the second installment of a three-part series around PLCs. The first webcast, "Why PLCs?" is available through an archived recording and the Oct. 24 virtual workshop, "Mock PLCs – Breaking Down a Standard," will follow.

KAS Implementation Professional Learning Mini Grant Competition
The Kentucky Academic Standards Implementation Professional Learning Mini Grant offers districts and/or schools the opportunity to dive deeply into specific and specialized professional learning around standards implementation. Districts may apply on behalf of the entire district or specific schools and 52 $10,000 mini grants will be awarded.
Applications are due 4 p.m. ET Oct. 28 and award notification will occur on or around Dec. 1.

Don’t Miss Out on Upcoming Virtual Workshops
Don’t miss out on the Kentucky Department of Education’s upcoming virtual workshops. Districts and schools are encouraged to plan ahead to promote and allow teachers to take part in these opportunities, as well as consider offering professional learning credit to those who attend.
The upcoming virtual workshops include:
- "Mock PLCs – Breaking Down a Standard,” Oct. 24, 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. ET: During this workshop, we will conduct a mock PLC in order to take a closer look at PLCs in action breaking down a standard to gain teacher clarity. Educators can use these links to attend either the 4 p.m. session or the 5 p.m. session.
- “Using the Social Studies Alignment Tool,” Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. ET: Participants will practice using the alignment tools for the Kentucky Academic Standards for Social Studies with guidance from KDE content consultants. Use these links to attend either the 4 p.m. session or the 5 p.m. session.
