Question of the Week

Q: How do I access the Pearson online training scheduled for Nov.19 at 3 ET?

A: The Office of Standards, Assessment and Accountability (OSAA) and Pearson will hold a joint Skype training session to demonstrate the administration and setup for the K-PREP Field Test for grades 3-8 and high school Online testing. A Special DAC Email will be sent with the training session materials prior to the Skype session. Participants will need to join the audio portion through the computer. Chat will be available to ask questions of the presenters throughout the training.

This session is intended for teachers, building assessment coordinators and district assessment coordinators to better understand the online system and how to prepare their students for the new format. Please join OSAA and Pearson by clicking on the Join Skype Meeting link. Please join a few minutes early in case any updates need to be completed on the computer.

A recording of this session will be available at a later date. A similar session will be held Tuesday, Jan.14 for those unable to attend this first live session or have additional questions. An Accommodations Training will be scheduled to provide details for online testing and accommodations.

School Report Card and Open House Updates

The School Report Card (SRC) will be updated Nov. 19 with accountability data. Open House also will be updated with the Long-Term Goals, ACCESS for ELLs summary data, and demographic reporting research data files by the performance of students, which are required to be reported by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.

The SRC will show any star rating and federal classification changes that occurred following the 10-day regulatory data review:

  • Two schools increased a star rating;
  • Two districts increased a star rating;
  • One school decreased a star rating;
  • One district decreased a star rating; and
  • One school was removed from the Additional Targeted Support and Improvement classification.

The Long-Term Goals (proficiency for all subjects, graduation rate and English learner) in Open House provide concrete, measurable indicators of aspirations and benchmarks against which to measure progress. The goals are based on improvement of performance for a class of students starting in kindergarten and graduating in 2030. Intermediate goals were established in three-year intervals from a 2018-2019 baseline to 2030.

To enhance reporting for English learners, summary data for each school and district will be available. Based on assessed students, data can be analyzed by grade level (grades K-12), domain and composite scores.

November Monthly DAC Webcast Recording

The Office of Standards, Assessment and Accountability (OSAA) hosted its monthly District Assessment Coordinator (DAC) webcast on Thursday, Nov. 14. The webcast was hosted by Jennifer Stafford, Director, in the Division of Assessment and Accountability Support (DAAS). Jennifer talked about the update accountability data release, along with upcoming trainings and accountability updates. Pam Powers, provided important updates regarding the Gov Delivery transition for OSAA communications.

The Nov. DAC Webcast PowerPoint and recorded video are available on the KDE Media Portal and the KDE Meetings and Trainings page with any pertinent materials

Transition Ready Scores Available in Infinite Campus (IC)

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) strives to publish student results data in IC as it becomes available. In this spirit, 2018-2019 Transition Ready scores have been imported into the State Edition of Campus. KDE will publish these scores to all districts beginning Tuesday Nov. 19.  Please email Tania Arnett  with any questions on this matter.

ACT PEARSONACCESSnext – Reminder

Manage Participation closes on November 29.

ACT Test Coordinators (TCs) received an email on Nov. 4, from statetesting@operations.act.org announcing the opening of PearsonAccessnext (PAN). The email message included directions for accessing the systems and completing required tasks within the systems. It also included links to system user guides with more detailed information.

Manage Participation:

After logging in to the system, TCs will be able to submit participation information which must be confirmed by Nov. 29. For more information please see the new training tutorial available at your Kentucky State Testing ACT webpage.

Manage Contacts:

If School TCs have changed since spring 2019 testing, DACs should forward the ACT email to the current Test Coordinator and then make the change to TC contact information in PAN. Directions for changing TCs can be found in the PAN User Guide for ACT or the Managing Contacts Training Tutorial. New DACs that do not have an account in PearsonAccessnext for ACT should e-mail Shara Savage or call 502-564-4395

Lyon County Schools

Lyon County School District is in Eddyville in western Kentucky on beautiful Lake Barkley. The economic opportunities in Lyon County are very much like any small rural town. There are several small businesses and many acres of rich farmland. Lyon County also has two large prisons within its boundaries providing many jobs. In addition, tourism plays a large part in the economy of Lyon County. Fishing, boating and other outdoor recreational opportunities abound opening business and job opportunities for residents as well as attracting new families to reside in the community.

There are three schools within the Lyon County school system. Lyon County Elementary serves 453 students in grades P-5. Lyon County Middle serves 231 students in grades 6-8, and Lyon County High School serves 281 students in grades 9-12.

Lyon County Schools prepare students for their futures by providing a strong literacy foundation at the elementary school level, integrating 1:1 technology at both the middle school and high school level, and expecting nothing but the best from all students, faculty and staff.

The community, students, teachers, faculty and staff are Our Pride and together we celebrate Our Success!
