Commissioner to announce loan forgiveness program for eligible teaching students

(FRANKFORT, KY) – The Kentucky Department of Education will host a news conference at 4 p.m. ET Thursday, Jan. 24, to announce the launch of a renewable loan forgiveness program designed to recruit  and support the next generation of diverse teaching talent in the Commonwealth.

Commissioner Wayne Lewis, Deputy Commissioner Amanda Ellis and Sherry Powers, dean of the College of Education at Eastern Kentucky University, will will discuss the need to recruit and retain a diverse, high quality teacher workforce in Kentucky and outline the eligibility requirements for the program. 

The news conference will be held in room 514 of the Kentucky Department of Education's headquarters, 300 Sower Blvd., Frankfort. The event will be livestreamed on KDE's media portal, mediaportal.education.ky.gov.
