COVID-19 Pfizer and Moderna Vaccine Update

As early as mid-June, providers may begin receiving shipments of Pfizer-BionNTech COVID-19 vaccine for ages 6 months to < 5 years with new CVX 219 and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for ages 6 months to < 6 years with new CVX 228.  To document these COVID-19 vaccine administrations, the new CVX and new NDC codes need to be added to EHR systems for the Pfizer and Moderna pediatric COVID-19 vaccines. Please add the codes to your EHR system so staff know which COVID-19 option to choose when administering to the different age groups. KYIR will only read the numeric code to record the vaccine type and not the associated text. Please consider what would be easiest for staff to differentiate when adding that text value. NOTE: The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for 6 months to < 5 years is a 3-dose series, while the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for 6 months to < 6 years is a 2-dose series. CVX code should be sent in the RXA 5.1 and NDC should be sent in the RXA 5.4 fields.

 

CVX 219 - Pfizer, 0.2mL dose, ages 6 months to < 5 years (note: concentration is 3 mcg)

  • EHR’s should prepare to accommodate this new code to allow for HL7 submissions with the accurate CVX for this age group.

 

CVX 228 - Moderna, 0.25mL dose, ages 6 months to < 6 years (note: concentration is 25 mcg)

  • EHR’s should prepare to accommodate this new code to allow for HL7 submissions with the accurate CVX for this age group.
