New Members Of Fire/EMS
Help us give a warm welcome to our four newest members! These gentlemen recently completed a six-week training academy and have just been assigned to shifts. They are doing a great job, and we are excited to have them on our team!
Planning and HPC
We are accepting applications from those willing to serve on the Planning/Historic Preservation Commission. The newly restructured Commission will make recommendations to the City Commission on issues relating to zoning, subdivision plats, sign regulations and various other matters affecting the development of Newton. It will perform design review on projects affecting listed historic properties. The Commission meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. This is a volunteer position. Applications are available at the third-floor reception desk at City Hall or by clicking the following link: www.newtonkansas.com/PCapplication.
Sales Tax
March 2023 sales tax revenues exceeded March 2022 revenues by 10.17%. Year to date, 2023 is up 9.78% over the same time period in 2022. This is good news as we continue to struggle to make up lost revenues due to the pandemic. We continue to work on diversify the City’s revenue streams so we aren’t so heavily dependent on property taxes.
