Newton Public Library
We are pleased to report construction of the new Newton Public Library remains on schedule. Foundations are nearly complete.
Swimming Pool
The contractor working at the pool will be done with deck demolition for warranty work and will begin replacement of concrete panels next week.
First Street Roundabout Improvements
Work will begin next week on the interior of the roundabout at First Street and I-135. The City’s contractor, Vogts-Parga Construction, will be laying concrete in a pattern similar to the Broadway roundabout completed in 2021. The City’s Parks Division will later add plantings in the newly created beds. Redesign of the roundabouts is intended to beautify entry points to the community. The previous design with its large area, shade, and heavy vehicle traffic has made landscaping a challenge. The circle will remain open to traffic during construction. The project is anticipated to be complete by the first week of May.
Sand Creek Station Golf Course
Staff is preparing for the upcoming NJCAA Men’s Division I Men’s Golf Championship May 16-19. This will be the third time Newton has hosted this prestigious championship. Teams from all over the nation will travel to Newton to compete for one of golf’s top awards. We are #NewtonProud to host these players, coaches, and families!
March has seen lower than expected rounds due to some inclement weather, but staff feels there’s a good chance we could still meet our financial objectives for the month. We are working to balance revenues and expenses.
The USGA will make the trip to Newton on April 18 for consideration of hosting a future USGA Championship. We look forward to hosting them and appreciate our community making them feel welcome!
