First Responder Calendar
And speaking of calendars, our partners at Caring Hands Humane Society have released the 2023 First Responder Calendar, which features members of Newton Police Department, Newton Fire/EMS, and other Harvey County agencies posing with adoptable pets from the Humane Society. For a suggested donation of $10-$20, you can take one of these calendars home today to keep for yourself or give to your loved ones. Calendars are currently only available at Caring Hands, so visit them at 1400 SE 3rd to get yours today!

Five Places of Christmas
Another special Newton event of the holiday season is tomorrow (Saturday, Dec. 3). Get into the holiday spirit with beautiful decorations, crafts and activities, and more. Stop by all five places (Carriage Factory Art Gallery, Harvey County Historical Museum, Warkentin House, Kauffman Museum, and Bethel College's Goerz House) and receive a free special edition Newton150 Christmas ornament while supplies last. Parade of Lights
Huge thanks to the Newton Lions Club for sponsoring and organizing the 2022 Parade of Lights in downtown last evening! Newton Police Department and Fire/EMS had a great time participating. Development, Planning and Project Updates
Building Permits: The month of November brought an additional custom-built, single-family home permit, valued at $585,000. This brings the total number of residential permits to 37, with 20 being new single-family homes, and 17 being multi-family, specifically duplexes.
Planning Commission: The Newton-North Newton Area Planning Commission meets Monday, Dec. 5, and will consider many development-related items, including the preliminary plat for Full Vision, the final plat for Rolling Hills 7th Addition (QuikTrip), and a zoning amendment for the Tindall Addition.

Dec. 8: Mural and Time Capsule Dedication: The final event of our 150th anniversary year is coming up – At 9 a.m. on Dec. 8, we will dedicate the Sesquicentennial time capsule and hold a ribbon-cutting with the Newton Murals & Arts Project for the Ice House Mural. We hope to see you there!
Dec. 23 & 26: City Facilities Closed: City facilities will be closed on Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26 in observance of the Christmas holiday.
Dec. 27: City Commission Meeting: The Dec. 27 meeting of the City Commission will take place at noon, rather than 7 p.m.
