At Tuesday night’s meeting, the City Commission approved the sale of four lots in the Newton Industrial Park to Murdock Properties.
Developer Lou Robelli will pay $12,000 per acre for approximately 7.93 acres at Southeast Ninth and Industrial Road. Plans call for a 38,400-square-foot building that could be expanded to a larger size in the future.
In January 2022, Murdock Properties purchased a total of about 117 acres of land from the City in the Kansas Logistics Park and on East First Street. Murdock is the developer of several large-scale distribution warehouses built in recent years along I-135 in Park City, totaling 3 million square feet in seven years.

- Named the new Centennial Park ballfield Railer Field.
- Transferred ownership of two City-owned properties to the Newton Land Bank: 118 S. Kansas and 324 E. 11th St. These properties will be able to be sold through the Land Bank for infill development.
- Received an update on proposed street, water line, and culvert improvements at Southeast Fourth and Slate Creek. An open house is set for 5-6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at City Hall for neighbors to receive information and ask questions.
- Extended the City’s option to purchase land from Tindall Corp. in the Kansas Logistics Park to March 3, 2023. It had previously been scheduled to expire at the end of this year.
- Designated the public parking lot at 121 E. Sixth St. for use by farmers markets from April through October.
- Approved a request from the Newton Farm & Art Market to use the parking lot at 121 E. Sixth St. for monthly winter market events from November through April.
