DCF Direct: SUN Bucks, CSS Month, Intern Day and Employee Spotlight

The SUN Bucks 2026 application period is coming to an end!

If you haven't already received the one-time $120 benefit per eligible child that helps pay for groceries during the summer months, applications must be received by DCF no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2026.

Families can explore eligibility requirements and learn more about the SUN Bucks program at SUNBucks.dcf.ks.gov. 

Remember: SUN Bucks benefits are available for 122 days from the date they are issued to the EBT card (Kansas Benefits Card). The issuance date can be found on the household's SUN Bucks approval letter.

When applying or recertifying for benefits with DCF, you are required to provide proof of your household’s circumstances to determine your eligibility. Providing the correct verification information when submitting your application or at your interview can help reduce delays in processing times.

In recognition of August as Child Support Awareness Month, DCF Child Support Services and YoungWilliams staff joined Governor Laura Kelly for a proclamation signing. It was a great way to kick off this month recognizing the impact this program has in supporting children and families.

Did you know that DCF offers no-cost child support services for Kansas families?

Our no-cost services include:

• Genetic testing and establishing parentage.
• Creating, enforcing and modifying orders.
• Collecting and distributing payments.

You can even apply for child support services online from the comfort of your own home. Visit cssapply.dcf.ks.gov to get started.

For parents who owe child support, there are many options to make payments in support of your child. The Kansas Payment Center allows parents to make child support payments with a credit/debit card, bank transfer, check/money order or virtual wallet (Venmo, PayPal and Google Pay).

Individuals who owe past-due child support are also encouraged to explore the incentives program. This program encourages individuals to pursue their career, educational and self-improvement goals while making monthly child support payments. Participants may be able to reduce their past-due child support balance by up to $6,000.

The Kansas Child Support Contact Center is available 24/7 to provide certain case and payment information by calling 1-888-757-2445. Child support representatives are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday (excluding State holidays) to assist with enrolling for services and to provide information about ongoing child support cases.
