April is Child Abuse Prevention Month
Powered by Hope, Strengthened by Prevention
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time for our communities to come together and support the well-being of children and families. This year’s theme, “Powered by Hope, Strengthened by Prevention,” emphasizes the collective responsibility we all share in protecting children.
DCF kicked off the month with #WearBlueDay at the State Capitol on April 4. A variety of events have been planned this month to highlight the importance of ensuring positive childhood experiences and providing necessary support for families.
Thank you for joining us at CAP Month events, designed to bring together resources and opportunities for families.

You can participate this month by wearing blue, the official color of child abuse prevention, planting a pinwheel garden (official symbols of CAP Month, representing childhood, joy, and the hope for a safe and healthy childhood for all children) and taking part in the conversation by sharing posts with #PoweredbyHope and #CAPMonthKS.

Stay Alert! Scams Target Kansas EBT Card Users
Thieves continue to target EBT cards in Kansas by using skimming devices hidden on card readers at grocery stores and other businesses. Skimming devices collect card numbers and pin codes from EBT cards and some other debit and credit cards. Thieves wirelessly access that information and use it to steal funds from your account.
Phishing scams also target EBT accounts. Beware of fake emails, phone calls and text messages that pretend to be from a trusted source, like DCF. Phishing scams try to trick you into clicking an unverified link that goes to the scammer's website with messages like "You are at risk of losing SNAP benefits, click here to maintain your eligibility," or "Your card is loaded with $X in benefits. Activate here."
DCF recommends using the security features on the ebtEDGE app or Cardholder Portal at ebtedge.com to block out-of-state and online purchases or to freeze the EBT card when it's not being used. Learn more about protecting your EBT card on our website.
