On 3/26/2024 at approximately 7:45 AM the West Lafayette Police Department responded to a reported bomb threat at West Lafayette Jr/Sr High School. The initial threat was called directly into the school but while WLPD units were responding, a second call was received by the WLPD Dispatch center from a caller who claimed to be inside the school with a firearm.
A WLPD Officer working in his capacity as a School Resource Officer immediately began to evacuate the school with the assistance of school administrators and teachers. Within minutes, responding officers from the West Lafayette Police Department, Purdue University Police Department, and Lafayette Police Department were inside the school conducting a room-by-room search for any potential threats.
West Lafayette Jr/Sr High School students were escorted to Mackey Area on the Purdue University campus for reunification with their families. The two other West Lafayette Public Schools initiated their emergency procedures as a precautionary measure.
Officers have finished clearing the school and have not found any credible evidence related to the reported threats. There were no reported injuries during the evacuation.
While the threats do not appear to be credible at this time, this is still an active investigation, and the West Lafayette Police Department will be conducting a criminal investigation related to these threats.
