RN Nursing Home Surveyor

Job Description

The Indiana State Department of Health is currently searching for RNs to become Public Health Nurse Surveyors dedicated to improving the quality of care in our Indiana healthcare facilities. This important job requires a registered nurse in good standing to serve on a team of RNs who conduct surveys at nursing homes and residential care facilities to assess compliance with State and Federal regulations.  Surveyors spend 6-7 hours a day in long term care facilities observing care, reviewing records and interviewing staff and residents.  Surveyors must have people skills as well as critical thinking skills.  Because reports are written on laptop computers, familiarity with computers and good keyboarding skills are essential.  Surveyors must travel using their personal vehicles but  receive reimbursement for mileage at $.44 per mile.  Although surveyors will usually survey within 50 miles of their home, they may be required to travel to anywhere in the state.  Orientation and two staff meetings per year are in Indianapolis and may require overnight stays at the surveyors' own expense but are reimbursed.  Long Term Care experience is preferred, but not required.

Our Nurse Surveyors cover a territory and are reimbursed for mileage.  This opportunity will cover the territory consisting of the following counties:  Vigo, Sullivan, Clay, Putnam, Hendricks, Parke, Vermillion, Fountain, Warren, Montgomery, Boone, and the western part of Marion county. Most facilities in this territory are located in Vigo county.
