DRIVE SAFE & SOBER THIS FOURTH OF JULY |
Statistics show that holidays associated with drinking are some the deadliest times of the year to be on the road, chief among them is the Fourth of July. This weekend comes at a time when the state and nation is experiencing a rise in traffic fatalities. Evidence suggests that many of the same risky driving behaviors that contributed to 2020 and 2021 being some of the highest for fatal crashes continue to persist. Those are higher average speeds in conjunction with declining seat belt use and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. To prevent crashes and save lives, CJI is encouraging motorists to drive safe and sober year-round, but especially over the Fourth of July weekend. |

SUPPORTING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS
Domestic violence shelters are critical to so many communities across the state. They provide a safe haven and are there for people during some of the darkest moments in their lives. To support these vital organizations, CJI recently awarded a total of $500,000 to 26 shelters in Indiana. The funding, through the Social Services Block Grant program, will help provide items like food, clothing, transportation and shelter to survivors in crisis. The goal of the program is to help offset the cost of certain operational expenses, so that other funding may be used to provide support services. Ultimately, these grants will better position Indiana’s domestic violence shelters to meet the needs of survivors across the state. |
