ICRC Partners with Indiana State University to Discuss Discrimination

TERRE HAUTE-The Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC) will team up with Indiana State University to host a topic discussion, “What is Discrimination?” The monthly Taboo Topics event will be held on Wednesday, February 26, from 5 – 7:00pm at the Charles E. Brown African American Cultural Center.

In this discussion, Taboo Topics will explore various definitions of discrimination, as well as what is considered unlawful discrimination under Indiana’s civil rights laws. Jordan Burton, staff council for ICRC will lead the discussion. Burton litigates discrimination claims in the areas of housing, employment, education, public accommodation and credit.

“I am excited to be invited to discuss ‘What Is Discrimination?’ as part of the ISU Taboo Topics series. There is so much we can learn when we approach difficult topics head on and confront tough challenges in the light of day. I look forward to discussing how Indiana’s civil rights laws fit into the much larger conversations about discrimination continuing to take place across our state and beyond,” said Burton.

Other panelists participating in the discussion will be Aspen Clemons, director of Indiana Commission for Women, Kimberly Simmons, intake and case management director, from ICRC and Allison Bishop, outreach coordinator, from accessAbility. “ICRC is proud to partner with other community organizations in an effort to educate all Hoosiers on discrimination and enable them to recognize any form of unfair treatment towards a group or individual,” said Greg L. Wilson Sr., executive director of ICRC.
