Indiana Commission for Women to Host Symposium on Paid Family Leave

Indianapolis (September 14, 2018)—The Indiana Commission for Women (ICW) will host a Paid Family Leave Symposium on September 26, 2018, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM (registration begins at 12:30 PM), at the Frank and Katrina Basile Theatre, Indiana Historical Society, 450 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis. The Symposium will release research conducted on the public’s receptiveness to paid family leave in Indiana and consisted of three components: 1) cost-benefit modeling of locally-developed proposals; 2) polling research on public interest; and 3) qualitative ethnographic research on the public’s perceptions.

In 2011, ICW conducted a series of listening sessions and survey to identify critical issues facing women. Among participants’ top five areas of concern were health-related issues, work-based issues, and care giving. Participants noted a general lack of support for caregiver roles, including adequate paid maternity and paternity leave. This research has informed ICW’s work to understand the needs of women in Indiana and to provide potential solutions to their challenges.

Registration is required for this free event. Please register at https://inpflsymposim.eventbrite.com. The event will be held prior to ICW’s annual Torchbearer Awards Ceremony, which recognizes the contributions of extraordinary Hoosier women who have been leaders in breaking down barriers for women. About the Indiana Commission for Women

The Indiana Commission for Women is committed to the full participation of women in all aspects of society in order to live, work and raise a family. ICW works to move Indiana women forward by understanding the needs of Indiana women and their families and by working strategically both within government and in our communities to help bring about positive solutions. We act as the voice of women, communicating their needs and concerns as well as their successes and contributions, so that they can become better connected to their communities and to the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to find their own voice.
