IPL PUBLIC COMMENTS If you're an Indianapolis Power & Light Co. (IPL) customer and would like to comment on the utility's rate request, you still have 2 opportunities. The IURC will hold its second and final public field hearing in the case on May 7 at New Augusta Public Academy - North (6450 Rodebaugh Rd.) in Indianapolis. It starts at 6:00 p.m. Consumers are also invited to send written comments to the OUCC for the case record through May 17. Our legal and technical review of IPL's request continues with our testimony due on May 24.
NIPSCO GAS RATE AGREEMENT The OUCC, industrial customers, and Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) are among the parties to a settlement agreement In NIPSCO's natural gas rate case. Benefits include a $48.9 million reduction from the utility's original request, and limits on the proposed increase in the monthly customer charge. The settlement is now pending before the IURC, which can approve, deny, or modify any agreement before it.
MORE UPDATES
Rate reductions for NIPSCO and Ohio Valley Gas customers are expected to take effect in May due to changes in federal tax law. Reductions for 7 additional small natural gas utilities and certain Aqua Indiana divisions are also expected to take effect this month. The OUCC's website has more on the Commission's ongoing investigation.
We are reviewing several new rate cases, including requests from the Boonville, Chandler, and Evansville municipal water utilities.
STAY SAFE! Did you know that problems with extension cords cause about 3,300 fires each year? One of the biggest hazards is overloading an extension cord or power strip. With May being National Electrical Safety Month, the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) has compiled a whole host of information that can help you make your home safer. ESFI's website also has seasonal advice and tips specifically for kids.
MEETING NEW FRIENDS April's weather may have been like a roller coaster, but it was perfect for the Earth Day Indiana Festival in Indianapolis on April 21. OUCC staff enjoyed meeting with consumers and sharing information about energy and water efficiency, safety, ongoing cases, and more. A special thank you to Cindy Armstrong (pictured), Brien Krieger, Karol Krohn, Barbara Smith, and Lyndsey Lane.
