JULY 2017
WATCH THE THERMOSTAT! Adjusting the thermostat by a few degrees may help you save more energy and money than you think, especially if you'll be away from home for more than 5 hours. It's justone of the many no-cost and low-cost steps that can help add up to energy savings.
MORE FOOD FOR THOUGHT AS SUMMER CONTINUES It's been a rainier than average July but summer is not yet over. Governor Eric J. Holcomb has proclaimed July as Smart Irrigation Month in Indiana, as part of a nationwide effort to remind consumers about using water efficiently, especially on the lawn. Most lawns only need 1 to 1.5 inches of rain each week, and technology can help businesses and homeowners to stay within that limit.
CASE UPDATES Our staff is reviewing the City of South Bend's recently filed water rate request. A procedural schedule, including a filing date for the OUCC's testimony, will be set in the near future. In other rate cases, the OUCC recently negotiated a settlement agreement that will halve Eastern Bartholomew Water Corporation's requested rate increase. In addition, the OUCC and Ohio Valley Gas have reached a partial settlement agreement on the utility's rates. Final filings in the case are due in August.
THANK YOU! All of us at the OUCC extend our thanks and appreciation to Tyler Bolinger, who is retiring in August following 32 years of public service with the State of Indiana. Tyler has served as the OUCC's electric division director for the last nine years and previously led the agency's natural gas division. While taking time off to be with his family, Tyler will continue his career as an economist and a financial/regulatory expert. We will miss Tyler as a colleague, a mentor, and a friend, and deeply appreciate his service.
