MAY 2017
CASE UPDATES The City of East Chicago will be able to make crucial investments to its water infrastructure under a recently approved agreement with the OUCC. An agreement reducing the Citizens Gas of Westfield rate request has also received IURC approval. Work continues in the Vectren electric infrastructure case, while an evidentiary hearing in the Ohio Valley Gas rate case is scheduled for June.
COMMENTS ARE INVITED An IURC public field hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 18, on Eastern Bartholomew Water Corporation's rate request. OUCC technical analysts and attorneys are reviewing the utility's proposal and are scheduled to file testimony on May 23. The OUCC invites written consumer comments in all cases before the IURC, regardless of whether a public field hearing is conducted.
SAFETY FIRST! Are you aware that extension cords cause more than 3,000 fires a year nationally by being misused? That's according to the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI). May is National Electrical Safety Month, an annual reminder to make sure you're not putting your home or business at risk for an electrical fire or for a harmful or fatal accident. The OUCC's website offers basic safety tips. For more specific tips and additional information, the ESFI's website is a great resource.
A WELL-DESERVED HONOR Do you know someone who is at least 65 who goes above and beyond when giving back to your community? Has he or she been volunteering locally for at least three years? If so, you have until May 24 to nominate that "unsung hero" for the Golden Hoosier Award. Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration will honor the winners at a Statehouse ceremony in June.
