Data Day Reminder
Thank you to everyone that has spread the good news about the INK Data Day! We have had quite a few people RSVP to the event. We do still have some availability so we are extending the deadline to RSVP to Friday, May 5th. As a reminder, the event will take place on Friday, May 12th from 1:30-3:30. We have reserved conference room A in the Government Center. The event is open to all researchers, but will be focused on introducing INK to new researchers.
To RSVP or to learn more about the event, visit the Newsroom page of our website.
Governance Committee & Legislative Update
Last Wednesday we had our April Governance Committee. The main topic was INK's future going forward. There were two bills that went through the legislature that affect INK. House Enrolled Act 1001 and HEA 1470. HEA 1470 repeals the INK statute along with making MPH a State agency. INK's Executive Director, Jeff Hudnall, along with the INK Governance Committee, and MPH leadership are currently working through next steps for a smooth transition. HEA 1001 was signed by Governor Holcomb last week and HEA 1470 is awaiting his signature. HEA 1001 is the State Budget Bill and includes INK funding. The effective date for each is July 1, 2017.
This is an exciting time for INK and MPH. There is tremendous potential for us and we appreciate your patience as we work through this transition. Any questions about INK's status can be directed to Jeff Hudnall at jhudnall@ink.in.gov.
INK Outreach
INK has been doing strategic outreach to various research universities, groups, and companies. We've been fortunate enough to be invited by a few universities to present to some of their faculty and staff: Purdue (January 2017), Notre Dame (May 2017), and IU (June 2017). We'll also be speaking to the Career Development Professionals of Indiana (CDPI) on May 19th. If you are interested in having INK do a presentation for you or your colleagues either virtually or in-person, feel free to reach out to Matt Hetzel at mhetzel@ink.in.gov.
April RAG Meeting
- The INK research advisory group recommended that INK staff work on grouping the original 23 questions into bigger questions/categories. After the RAG approves the restructuring of these questions, we'll post them on the website for other researchers to view.
- The RAG is going to be taking on a new research project similar to what was done with the dropout/non-completer question. The question we are going to look at this time is around licensing and certifications. We are in the beginning stages of determining what we want to know, what has been done already, and what other data elements we need to acquire.
