INK's Public Newsletter
At INK we've decided to take our internal newsletter and open it to the public. We're looking to keep the internal and external stakeholders that we have already developed relationships with informed on the comings and goings at INK. This could include updates on INK meetings and important decisions, research being done on education and the workforce, INK's data requests, attendance at conferences, or other data related topics. We're also looking to share INK with new potential stakeholders, so please feel free to share this newsletter with others and encourage them to subscribe. For those of you that want to unsubscribe from this newsletter please click the "manage preferences" button at the bottom of the newsletter. Select the email option and follow the instructions to unsubscribe.
SLDS Grant Program
INK was built to be a longitudinal database to link records from multiple state agencies that would allow for more comprehensive and holistic research. This research is meant to then help inform and improve policy decisions. INK is still working towards this mission today and with the secure release of data to researchers we will see the fruits our labor in the coming years. INK is not the only state working on a database like this. All 50 states, territories, and districts have started work on a longitudinal data system to improve their education and workforce systems. If you want to learn more about these efforts take a look at the SLDS Grant Program on the National Center for Education Statistics website. Not all of the states, territories, or districts have received grants, but they all have begun working on a system.
Data Day For Researchers
INK will be hosting an event to bring new researchers to the Government Center on Friday, May 12th from 1:30-3:30. This event will be geared toward introducing INK to new researchers that are interested in conducting research with education and workforce data. Marketing materials with RSVP information will be created and distributed over the coming months. Please share this initial notice with interested colleagues .
February RAG Meeting
- A project that came from this meeting was the INK "data wish list" review. Members of the INK RAG are working on reviewing data elements that we might be able to add to INK in the future.
- RAG members gave updates on some of the great work they are doing. Ivy Tech, in collaboration with DWD, has created dashboards for their work on Senate Bill 301.CHE and DWD are both working separately on projects centered around certificate programs.
- Santhosh from the INK/MPH team gave a great presentation on the INK matching process. He started by reviewing how and where INK obtains data. Then he covered all of the processes that the data goes through to be matched and how it currently exists within the INK system. Santhosh also talked about some of the system enhancements he and his team have been able to make, and shared some statistics about the INK system.
