Skin Safety
Too much sun can damage your skin. It can cause skin cancer, cold sores, brown spots and wrinkles. Time your outside events. Damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays are the strongest from late morning to mid-afternoon. Cover up. The best protection for your skin is to keep it covered up. So when you’ll be in the sun, reach for your loose-fitting clothing and big hats. And don’t forget your sunglasses. Use sunscreen. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays. And choose one with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. Don’t forget. Cover your nose, scalp, lips, ears and neck. Check your skin. Ask your health care provider to check your skin once a year. And you can check it often at home. Call your health care provider if you see new spots or changes to existing ones.
Jackie's summer well-being tips:
-
Drink water. Our bodies need water to work like they should. If you don’t like plain water, try adding fruits or herbs to make it more flavorful.
-
How much water? You may have heard that you should drink eight eight-ounce glasses of water a day. It’s easy to remember. And it’s a reasonable goal. Most healthy people can stay hydrated just by drinking when they’re thirsty.
-
Sometimes you’ll need more. You need to replace water you lose through sweat. So, you’ll want to drink plenty of water when you’re being active. Or if you live in a hot climate.
Get started on your health goals:
You can sign up for a 15 to 20-minute one-to-one coaching session with Jackie at the Government Center Clinic. It's easy to schedule: Just call 855-202-4219.
