On June 27th, Governor Eric Holcomb will speak to the 2019 summer interns from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the South Building auditorium. All interns are encouraged to attend.
Elected in November 2016, Governor Holcomb is a veteran of the United States Navy, graduate of Pike High School and Hanover College, and former chairman of the Indiana Republican Party. Holcomb's Next Level Agenda is his current plan to improve Hoosiers' well-being and quality of life. The plan focuses on jobs, economic growth, attacking the drug epidemic, infrastructure and government service to improve our state and the lives of its citizens.
On Thursday, June 6, 27 interns attended an event at the Indiana State Museum, where they enjoyed free admission and the opportunity to explore exhibits.
Indiana Department of Education Director of Communications Holly Stachler was on hand to greet the interns and share remarks. Formerly a teacher in Yorktown and Muncie, Mrs. Stachler has served as IDOE's director of communications for almost two years. She graduated with both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Ball State University.
Mrs. Stachler began her speech with several numbers representing key metrics about education in Indiana. She used this to transition into a discussion about teacher shortages and changes in graduation programs, among other topics that affect Indiana’s communities, workplaces, and education.
Mrs. Stachler had interns guess what several numbers represented; these included the number of teachers and students in Indiana, as well as numbers related to education budgeting.
This event was the first of the 2019 Intern Speaker Series. The series' next speaker is Governor Eric Holcomb, who will be speaking to interns on June 27.
The Run The State series is presented by Invest in Your Health Indiana, the state employee wellness program. State employees and their families are invited to participate in three 5K events and two hikes. On June 22, a 5K event will take place at Angel Mounds State Historic Site in Evansville, IN.
Angel Mounds is one of Indiana's oldest Native American sites and was built between A.D.1000 and 1450. The site holds eleven mounds built to elevate and display important buildings of the Mississippian people, and was abandoned before European explorers came to North America.
