The Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) is sending a survey to those who have received services from community mental health centers and addiction service providers in the past year. The thoughts and feelings of those served are important to the DMHA to gauge the strengths and weaknesses of these services to address any improvements that could be made. Some providers have already sent this survey, and you do not need to take it again if you have already completed it. Surveys may be taken anonymously unless the participant wishes to share his or her name. Here is the survey for adults and the survey for families of youth.
As the contracted period for the Bringing Recovery Supports to Scale Technical Assistance Center Strategy (BRSS TACS) comes to an end, the state teams reflect on the progress and lessons learned throughout the program. The BRSS TACS, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), was founded to address concerns with treatment services provided to those with substance abuse disorders, severe mental health issues, and those with both. SAMHSA cites that 33.3 percent of adults with serious mental illness, and 36 percent of those with co-occurring serious mental illness and substance abuse disorders do not receive treatment. BRSS TACS educates authorities about these disorders and pushes a shift from the acute care model to a comprehensive continuum of treatment and recovery services. This model allows for engagement for those affected by these disorders in their own treatment. Through this shift, BRSS TACS has positives impacted 211 million Americans in 34 states, one territory, and one tribal community.
Since 2018, under Indiana Code 36-2-14-6 (b), all Indiana coroners have been required to conduct toxicology screenings to gather information on suspected controlled substances in fatal overdose cases. The Indiana Department of Health has partnered with Wayne State University to conduct analyses on the toxicology data collected. The 2020 Multi-Drug Toxicology Report has been recently published on the state Department of Health website.
