National Recovery Month: September 2020

2020 Recovery Month

Sept. 1 marks the beginning of National Recovery Month, which is hosted to increase awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders, as well as celebrate the people who recover. This year marks the 31st annual National Recovery Month, and this year’s theme is, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Celebrating Connections.” Faces & Voices of Recovery hosts National Recovery Month this year. Be on the lookout for Recovery Month events in your area!

United Way of Wabash Valley awarded $1M Grant

The United Way of Wabash Valley was awarded a three-year, $1 million grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) through the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program implementation grant. The United Way will partner with organizations to implement substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery activities, such as hiring substance use treatment professional, expanding telehealth at three recovery centers and funding two new recovery residences. Funding will also support the enrollment of more than 2,000 students in new school-based and evidence-based prevention programs annually and nine new drug take-back sites.

Landlord Mitigation Reserve Program

House and Key

The Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) of Indiana is offering the Landlord Mitigation Reserve (LMR) Program to aid individuals in recovery in overcoming barriers in securing safe, decent, and affordable housing. It also works to encourage landlords to lease available units within their property to individuals in recovery with a felony on their records that relates to substance use disorder. While the program does not assist with funding for housing, it does seek to expand the housing accessibility for those in recovery. To apply, an individual must have at least one felony (with the charge relating to prior substance use disorder), no pending charges or open cases for at least one year, consistent employment within the last year, one year of treatment/recovery, and maintain good standing with any criminal justice entities.
