Follow Medication Safety Tips
About 35,000 emergency department visits result from unintentional medication consumption among children under five years old annually. Contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 if you believe a child in your care has ingested medication on accident. Be proactive and follow these medication safety tips:
- Properly close and store your medications, including CBD/Hemp products
- Keep medication out of sight and out of reach of children
- Talk to your kids about medication safety
- Educate grandparents or other caregivers
-
Share this flyer with your staff and families
- Remind your staff of the proper storage for personal items in the classroom and on field trips
Be proactive when it comes to child medication safety. Any family whose child requires medication should have a completed medication authorization form on file. Make sure to discuss medication administration with the families in your care. Here is a medication administration safety course you can take.
