Please join us as we celebrate the Indiana Vision Expo on
Saturday, September 30th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Indiana State
Library. The Expo will feature our usual wide variety of vendors and non-profit
agencies that provide the latest in adaptive technology, independent living
aids, and other resources for all ages. New vendors this year include QR Speak,
a producer of talking playing cards, and Visually Impaired Preschool Services
(VIPS).
Our program will include a 10:30 presentation on the
Indiana Assistive Technology Act (INDATA) by Easterseals Crossroads. The INDATA
Project is a federally-funded project designed to increase access and awareness
of assistive technology. Services provided by INDATA include information
and referral, funding assistance, public awareness and education, device
demonstration, device loan, reutilized computers, and equipment reutilization.
At 11:45 there will be a presentation on the latest
advancements in the treatment of eye disease by low vision specialists Dr.
Richard Windsor and Dr. Laura Windsor of the Low Vision Centers of Indiana.
Parking will be available for $10 in the Senate Avenue
Parking Garage. The entrance is off of
New York Street between West Street and Senate Avenue. Snacks and drinks will
be on sale for a small fee.

Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry" by

Alice Whitley works for a publisher who sends her to
California to help reclusive author Mimi Banning deliver her long-awaited
second novel. While Mimi locks herself in her office supposedly writing every
day, Alice takes care of Frank, Mimi's ferociously intelligent but eccentric
young son. 2016.
"The
Red Notebook" by Antoine Laurain (DB 86377)
After a woman is mugged on the streets of Paris, she winds
up in a coma. Bookstore owner Laurent finds her handbag abandoned nearby and
uses clues from the bag, including a red notebook, to track the woman down.

"The
Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper" by Phaedra Patrick (DB 85718,
BR21656)
A year after the death of his beloved wife, Miriam, Arthur
Pepper is sorting through her possessions and finds a lovely charm bracelet he
never saw her wear. His decision to search for the story behind each charm
takes him far from his comfort zone. Some strong language. 2016.
"The
Hundred-Foot Journey" by Richard C. Morais (DB 84747, BR 21533)
Family tragedy
followed by fortune forces the Haji family from Mumbai. They travel to London,
and then to a small town in France. Their neighbor, Madame Mallory, first wages
war and then mentors son Hassan in the ways of cuisine. Some violence. 2008.

In May, the Indiana State
Library Foundation hired Elizabeth Pearl to be the new public awareness
coordinator for the Indiana Talking Book and Braille Library. As the public awareness coordinator,
Elizabeth provides statewide outreach services to libraries, support groups,
nursing homes, and any other organization interested in utilizing and promoting
talking books.

of Indiana annual conference, 502 East Event Center, Carmel.
This summer 33 readers aged 5 to 18 read 505 braille,
audio, and large print books over a nine-week period. Prizes for all
participants have been mailed to their homes. Congratulations to our three
grand prize winners!
