Indiana bicentennial infographic

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Hoosier state, the U.S. Census Bureau presents population counts for the state of Indiana from every census since 1820 in this graphic, as well as the latest population estimates. View the graph here.

Toys and turkeys

In 2014, 560 locations nationwide produced dolls, toys and games; an increase of 15 locations from 2013. In 2014, toy makers employed 6,215 workers, a decrease of 323 employees from 2013. California led the nation with 93 establishments.

To compare Indiana to other states, see toy makers by state here.

An estimated 23.6 million young domestic turkeys were hatched during September of 2015 year in the United States, up 21 percent from September 2015.

According to the USDA and the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Indiana ranks in the top 10 states in the nation for turkey production and has for the past five years.

For more information about turkey production, see the detailed description of small-flock turkey production from Penn State University.

End of term web archive

The End of Term Web Archive (EOT) captures and saves U.S. government websites at the end of presidential administrations. Beginning in 2008, the EOT has thus far preserved websites from administration changes in 2008 and 2012, and it is currently preparing for the 2016 electoral season.

The EOT archive contains federal government websites (.gov, .mil, etc.) in the legislative, executive or judicial branches of the government. Websites that were at risk of changing (i.e., whitehouse.gov) or disappearing altogether during government transitions were captured. Local or state government websites, or any other site not part of the federal government domain were out of the scope of the EOT.

To learn more about the EOT archive, view this recent article from Library Journal, Government Website Harvest Enlists Librarians, Educators, Students. As stated in the article, the public access copies of websites stored in the archive are kept at Internet Archive, the Library of Congress holds a preservation copy and an additional copy is held at University of North Texas for data analysis. The Internet Archive blog for Dec. 15, 2016 provides additional details. The National Archives and Records Administration also conducted harvests of the 109th to 113th Congresses and the 2004 presidental term websites; those archives can be accessed here.

Duke Energy Foundation invests in West Lafayette Public Library

On Dec. 6, 2016, the Duke Energy Foundation generously donated $7,000 to the West Lafayette Public Library (WLPL). The check was presented by Duke Energy's Government and Community Relations Manager Dan Rhodes, and the Duke Energy Foundation, to WLPL's Director Nick Schenkel.

"By investing in the Library through the purchase of books focused on children’s classic favorites and large print bestsellers, the Duke Energy Foundation is reaching thousands of readers. We appreciate this ongoing partnership which serves so many in our community," Schenkel said.
