Not Like the Rest of Us

Not Like Us

"Not Like the Rest of Us: An Anthology of Contemporary Indiana Writers" features seventy-eight notable Indiana poets, fiction writers and essayists, including Marianne Boruch, Jared Carter, Mari Evans, Karen Joy Fowler, Helen Frost, John Green, Philip Gulley, Patricia Henley, Susan Neville, Scott Russell Sanders and Dan Wakefield. The most experienced writers here are in their nineties; the youngest in their twenties. Some are best-selling authors, some widely known in literary circles and some just beginning. Many were born and raised in Indiana; others found their way here and stayed.

An officially endorsed Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project, the book extends the appreciation of Indiana’s rich literary heritage into the 21st century, celebrating authors who are bringing honor to the Hoosier state in our own time.  Libraries can purchase this new contemporary Indiana collection here.

North Madison Visits the State Library

NorthMadison

On Nov. 2, 2016, North Madison County Public Library Director Jamie Scott and her staff visited the Indiana State Library as part of their annual staff day. During the visit, Associate Directors Connie Bruder and Wendy Knapp gave a tour of the building and shared information about the various services the State Library provides to Indiana libraries and to all Hoosier residents. "We loved having them visit and we hope more libraries plan a trip to come see us," Bruder said.

If you are interested in bringing your staff to visit the Indiana State Library, or you simply want to get more information about the library, please contact Connie at cbruder@library.in.gov or Wendy at wknapp@library.in.gov.

2016 Star Libraries Announced

StarLibraries

Library Journal has announced the 2016 Class of Star Libraries, comprised of 260 public libraries selected from over 7,300 qualifying libraries nationwide. Indiana is home to 4 of the Star Libraries: Allen County Public Library, Carmel Clay Public Library, Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library, and Oxford Public Library. These 4 libraries rated 3 stars or higher among other libraries with similar budgets in the areas of circulation/e-circulation, visits, program attendance, and computer use.

Data used to rank libraries is taken from Indiana’s Annual Report for Public Libraries. For more information on the Star Library program and Library Journal Index of Public Library Service, visit Library Journal’s America’s Star Libraries website.
