Revamped 2020 Indiana Thoroughbred Breeder Program

Changes to the 2020 Indiana Thoroughbred racing program have been approved as Indiana’s racetracks prepare to commence racing in mid-June after the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the start of the racing season. Updated 2020 Restricted Stakes Schedule

Following the approval of the new 2020 race calendar, the schedule for the first half of the Indiana Thoroughbred Breed Development Restricted Stakes is as follows: 

June 17 - Swifty Sired Stakes & Sagamore Sired Stakes
July 8 - Hoosier Breeders Sophomore Stakes Colts & FIllies
August 5 - Ellen's Lucky Star Stakes & Snack Stakes
August 26 - Governor's Stakes & Indiana First Lady Stakes
September 2 - William Henry Harrison Stakes, Shelby County Stakes, ITOBA SSA Stakes Colts & Fillies
September 16 - Gus Grissom Stakes & RIchmond Stakes
September 30 - Hillsdale & City of Anderson Stakes

The Stewards Corner: What Does a Steward Do?

In the aftermath of the 2019 Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, the spotlight shone on race stewards a little more than usual, with many people asking what exactly is a racing steward, and what do they do? At Indiana Grand Racing & Casino, there are three stewards tasked with a variety of duties to perform each day of the race meet. Responsibilities are divided amongst the three stewards daily, and it is recommended that each steward is familiar with each task and that he/she is able to handle multiple duties at any given time. Advisory for Owners Attending Races

Beginning Monday, June 15, up to two owners per horse will be allowed on the racetrack backside, subject to the provisions of the reopening plan including (but not limited to) daily temperature checks, displayed license requirements, wearing the color-coded wristband, and mask usage.  Continue reading... 


Stay Healthy - Renew Your License Online

Help our licensing office with COVID-19 social distancing protocols by applying for your IHRC license online today. To get started, simply click this direct link: https://hrms.hrc.in.gov to either access the account you setup last year using your email address or establish a user profile account if you’re a first time user prior to applying. 

Should you wish to complete the process by filing a paper application, you can still download it from our website. Click on ‘Licensing’ at the left of your screen to find the paper application. You may also call either racetrack license office to request an application be mailed to you.


Don't Forget: Foal Registration

Foal registrations are due within 1 year of the foaling date to avoid late fees. However, late foals can be submitted with a late fee using the following guidelines:

12 months and 1 day to December 31st of the yearling year: $200 late fee

Please verify your foals have been registered. You can check the 2019 and 2020 Foal Registration List (and other years) on our website: https://www.in.gov/hrc/tb/2358.htm
