2020 Thoroughbred Program Approved

Thanks to Indiana General Assembly approval last year, Indiana racinos introduced table games as an option for players in January. Because of this action, new revenue from this wagering has allowed the Indiana Thoroughbred Breed Development Advisory Committee to craft a 2020 racing program rewarding more breeders with more races and more money.

The 2020 program, thanks to breed development and track contributions, will be valued at $17,457,992, an increase of $2.4 million to 2019’s program. This is an increase of almost 14 percent from the previous year. Continue reading...

New Incentive for New Mares Registered in Indiana for 2020

The Indiana Thoroughbred Breed Development Program is providing up to $2,000 in incentives for new mares purchased and brought into the state of Indiana for the 2020 foaling season.

It’s the first step for the growth of breeding and racing in Indiana supported by an increase in funding from the implementation of table games at the state’s two pari-mutuel tracks. The incentive is aimed towards breeders who have purchased, or are still looking to purchase, mares in foal at the major breeding stock sales from Nov. 1, 2019, to March 1, 2020. Learn more...

You may also call either racetrack license office to request an application be mailed to you.

Breed Development Advisory Board Meeting

There will be a regular meeting of the Thoroughbred Breed Development Advisory Committee on Tuesday, March 24.

WHEN: March 24, 11 a.m. EDT
WHERE: Indiana Horse Racing Commission at 1302 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
(Please use entrance off of 13th Street and proceed to Hoosier Lottery reception desk.)

The meeting is open to all and will also be live streamed on the Facebook Page.


Register Your Foal Today

Foaling season is underway, and while we are welcoming the 2020 foals, don't forget to check if you've registered all of your 2019 foals. 

Foal registrations are due within 1 year of the foaling date. However, late foals can be submitted with a late fee. The breakdown of late fees are as follows:

12 months and 1 day to December 31st of the yearling year: $200 late fee
2 years old: $400 late fee
3 years old and older: $1,000 late fee
