Buyers of Indiana Horses Welcomed to Racing with Buyer Bags

The state of Indiana is known for its Hoosier Hospitality, and to remind buyers of registered Indiana-bred or Indiana-sired horses about that hometown pride, the Indiana Horse Racing Commission (IHRC) and its three breed development programs have invested in buyer bags for the 2019 sales season.

The buyer bags are a combination of resources from the Indiana breed development programs and the state’s horsemen’s associations as a way to introduce buyers of Indiana eligible horses to its breed development program and racing opportunities within our state. Continue reading...

Thoroughbreds: Register Indiana-bred foals within 1 year of the foaling date. Register here.

Standardbreds: Foal registrations are due within 30 days of the foaling date, but late foals can be submitted with a late fee. Register here.

Quarter Horses: Register Indiana-bred foals within 1 year of the foaling date. Register here.

Finding Haven for a Retired Indiana-bred Racehorse

The end of the racing season at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino sees trainers moving tack to the next track and horses either head to the farm for vacation or to the next race meet. It is also seen as the informal retirement period for racehorses.

For trainer Tim Glyshaw and his client, Ironhorse Racing Stable LLC, it was time to consider a new career for Indiana-bred Havenhill, a 3-year-old gelding by Run Away and Hide and out of the Dixie Union mare, Holladay Dixie.

“It’s not that he’s a failure at racing--he’s had success on the track,” says Harlan Malter, principal for Ironhorse Racing Stable LLC. “You can just tell Havenhill is meant for life off the track. Our mission was to retire him sound and happy, and we have.” Continue reading...
