News & Updates from the Indiana Horse Racing Commission

A Letter from the Executive Director:

As we head into July, I’d like to thank all the owners, trainers, drivers, jockeys and track management for their efforts in making Indiana a great place to race, breed and train. I’m happy to report that racing has been very good this season, with the exception of a handful of positive tests that have primarily been overages of therapeutic medications. Speaking of medication and illegal substances, our primary laboratory is constantly on the lookout for the latest new and creative substances being used and is always acquiring new materials to test for different drugs and compounds.

As most of you know, it’s not unusual for me to be on the backside. While I’ve been accused of disguising myself and sneaking around, I assure you that’s not the case. I’m there because I want to be available to hear your thoughts and concerns (and I obviously like the races too!). So, if you see me don’t hesitate to bend my ear!

Sincerely,

Mike Smith
