IHCDA COVID-19 update: A message from Jake

The first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Indiana last month and already thousands of frontline healthcare workers have been vaccinated. However, it is important to remember that it still may be several months until every Hoosier has an opportunity to receive the vaccine. In the meantime, testing remains an important component of our statewide strategy to limit the spread of the virus.

We are pleased to partner with the Indiana Department of Health and the Family and Social Services Administration to make COVID-19 testing available to congregate residential/shelter providers serving our most vulnerable Hoosiers. A CLIA Certificate of Waiver is required for facilities to perform COVID-19 testing. More information about the process can be found here.

If you work at an emergency shelter, I ask that you please take time to review this information and consider taking the necessary steps to apply for the CLIA Certificate of Waiver so you can administer COVID-19 tests at your facility.

The Community Services team at IHCDA works with emergency shelters and other homeless service providers throughout the state. I would like to take a moment and say, “Thank you” to Elby, Kristin, Daniella, Diane, Beth, Candace, Alexander, Grant, Lori, Danielle, and Van for their tireless dedication to our homeless providers and the mission of IHCDA.

We are fortunate to have several temporary employees and other IHCDA team members who have assisted with administering CARES Act funding. I would like to thank them for their contributions as well.

The Community Services team also works in close partnership with the Indiana Balance of State Continuum of Care. Together they recently released important Winter Guidance for homeless service providers that can be found here.

Our entire team at IHCDA remains available to provide support and assistance to you and your organization. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at any time. We are #INthistogether.
