IHCDA COVID-19 update: A message from Jake
About four years ago, in partnership with Patronicity, we introduced our CreatINg Places program to encourage and support not-for-profit organizations and local units of government to engage in placemaking activities. Using crowdfunding, the program has supported over 100 successful projects throughout the state of Indiana. While the type of projects varies, they each are focused on transforming underutilized community spaces into places that contribute to the health, happiness, and the well-being of their communities.
I would like to highlight one of the more recent projects that has far exceeded their fundraising goal. The Richmond Farmers Market used our CreatINg Places program to raise money to make improvements to the historic Starr Gennett Logo Building.
Their “Home for the Holidays” campaign had a goal to raise $15,000 that would be matched by $15,000 by IHCDA if they met their goal. Thanks to the support of more than 500 donors, the campaign raised over $34,000. With these funds they have been able to host a Winter Farmers Market safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I would like to thank the Richmond Farmers Market for their partnership on this campaign and for their creativity to continue helping support local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
FHFA Extends Foreclosure and Evictions Moratoriums
Last week the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) announced that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) have extended their moratoriums on foreclosures and evictions until at least January 31, 2021. It is important to note that the foreclosure moratorium applies to Enterprise-backed, single-family mortgages only. The current moratoriums were set to expire on December 31, 2020.
COVID-19 Updates from the State of Indiana
As Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lindsay Weaver stated earlier this week, the first step towards the end of the pandemic is a COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Weaver announced this week that the first 55,000 doses of the vaccine are being shipped to Indiana. These will be provided to frontline medical professionals as early as next week. More details about the vaccine can be found here: www.coronavirus.in.gov/vaccine.
Unfortunately, the number of COVID-19 cases in Indiana continues to rise. Earlier this week the Governor announced new steps being taken to help slow the spread. I ask that you please follow and share these new guidelines with your network.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are #INthistogether.
