IHCDA COVID-19 update: A message from Jake

As I shared last week, the application deadline for the state’s rental assistance portal was on Wednesday, August 26th. We received over 36,000 applications in the 45 days that the portal was open. To date, more than $12 million has been sent out to participating landlords on behalf of Indiana renters.

While the deadline to apply for rental assistance has now passed, I am pleased to announce a new feature on the www.indianahousingnow.org website. Indiana households can now subscribe to receive updates about housing assistance resources during the COVID-19 pandemic by clicking here.

An example of one of these resources is the Energy Assistance Program (EAP). Applications for Program Year 2021 will be accepted beginning on September 14th. In addition to the standard EAP benefit, an additional $350 CARES Act benefit remains available to households that have experienced a loss in income due to COVID-19.

Additional details about EAP, and a list of local service providers, can be found at: eap.ihcda.in.gov.

I want to take a few moments and acknowledge Indiana’s Community Action Agencies. Together, these organizations, along with the John H. Boner Center, assist Hoosiers with applying for energy assistance across all 92 counties. They helped us provide over 114,000 Indiana households with energy assistance last program year. If you would like to find your local Community Action Agency and learn more about the services they provide in your community, click here.

In addition to state programs like EAP, housing and other types of assistance is also available at the local level. A good place for Hoosiers to start is with their Township Trustee. A directory of Township Trustees can be found on the Indiana Township Association’s website here.

Township Trustees, Community Action Agencies and other local organizations play a critical role in helping Hoosiers in need. I thank them for their continued partnership and support during this unprecedented time of need. We are #INthistogether.
