IHCDA COVID-19 update: A message from Jake
On Wednesday I joined Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch to publicly announce the Indiana COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program.
This program was made possible by the allocation of $25 million of Indiana’s CARES Act discretionary funding with the goal of reducing evictions and increasing housing stability for Indiana’s renter households.
Individual households who have experienced a loss of income due to the pandemic may be eligible for rental assistance up to $500 per month for four months, for a total maximum benefit of $2,000 per household.
Applications will be accepted through www.IndianaHousingNow.org beginning July 13, 2020 at 9:00 am Eastern.
Also during Wednesday’s press conference, Governor Holcomb announced that he would be extending the stay on evictions until July 31, 2020.
In the meantime, Indiana residents unable to make their rent payment should speak with their landlord and request a payment plan. Additional resources, and answers to frequently asked questions, can be found in the Coronavirus Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Guide.
With June being the National Homeownership Month, I want to give a shout out to the team at Southern Indiana Housing and Community Development Corporation (SIHCDC). Yesterday, IHCDA’s Board of Directors approved $50,000 to SIHCDC so they can develop a single-family home for a homebuyer in the Lincoln Central Neighborhood in Columbus.
SIHCDC is an amazing IHCDA partner who has developed and preserved affordable housing in at least ten counties in southern Indiana. Thank you and keep up the good work!
