IHCDA COVID-19 update: A message from Jake

As closures and social distancing have left many of us feeling isolated, I thought the spring edition of IHCDA...the Magazine would give us the refreshing opportunity to reconnect and experience some of the exciting events going on in housing around Indiana. During this uncertain time, it can be easy to lose sight of the great work we have done to improve our communities. By focusing on the positive, we can gather strength from our past accomplishments and realize that together we will be successful in meeting the challenges of today.

We kick things off with #INthistogether, which highlights inspirational stories shared with us by our partners of people giving back to their communities. In rising above the current difficulties, these Hoosiers are selflessly making a positive difference.

A time of uncertainty and worry turned into a success story through the Hardest Hit Fund. Thanks to the help of Affordable Housing and Community Development Corporation in Marion, IN a grateful homeowner was able to keep her beloved home.

Another bright spot can be found in our cover story about the achievements of LTHC Homeless Services, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. Committed to ending homelessness, LTHC has opened several permanent supportive housing projects. The newest project, Union Place Apartments, opened in November 2019. It includes an Engagement Center where residents have access to services to help meet their needs.

The article about the historic YMCA in Richmond is perfect for the season of spring. This beautiful downtown building experienced a renaissance when it was refurbished and repurposed as affordable housing for seniors.

Working together as a community is the key point of the story about Bluffton. They were able to raise money to create a wellness center through IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program. The wellness center provides space for the Rock Steady Boxing program that supports individuals with Parkinson’s.

Thanks to all those who shared stories with us. We are glad to be able to pass them along for everyone to enjoy. Please keep them coming; now is an excellent time to accentuate the positive.
