IHCDA COVID-19 update: A message from Jake

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump on March 27, 2020. Through the Coronavirus Relief Fund, the CARES Act provides for payments to State, Local, and Tribal governments navigating the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.

To help provide greater clarity and understanding of the money awarded to Indiana that most impacts you and your organizations, we have created a CARES Act section on our COVID-19 Actions page. Currently, this section provides a breakdown of supplemental funding awarded through the following programs:

  • Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
  • Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG)
  • Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA)

Several other housing and community development programs received supplemental funding under the CARES Act, and we anticipate that federal agencies will be allocating the funding for those programs in the coming weeks. These IHCDA administered programs include:

  • Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV)
  • Project-Based Rental Assistance
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities (Section 811)
  • Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)

We will continue to update you, and this section on our website, as more information and details become available.

From an operational perspective, I want to remind you that our office and building is closed. Anyone that needs to turn in documents should mail them to our address: 30 South Meridian Street, Suite 900, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204. We will work to ensure that staff continue to receive the mail that is addressed to them in a timely fashion as they work remotely.

Despite not being in our office, we continue to be here for you and your organizations. As an agency, we are conducting 25 weekly listening sessions. These calls allow us to better understand the challenges you are facing and how we can best assist you in identifying solutions. Outside of those calls, please don't hesitate to contact me at jsipe@ihcda.in.gov or on my direct line at 317-233-1811 if there is anything I can do to help you or your organization. We're #INthistogether!
