Fair Housing Law & Policy Conference

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission is hosting the Region V Fair Housing Law & Policy Conference on October 10-12, 2018 in Indianapolis. The conference, targeting builders, developers, policymakers, housing providers and realtors, will focus on fair housing investigation, policy and law update, and housing industry best practices.

2018 Excellence in Affordable Housing Awards

The 2018 Excellence in Affordable Housing Awards were presented at the Indiana Housing Conference last week. The awards are presented to the most outstanding new properties in four categories and celebrate the best in Indiana affordable housing development. This year's recipients were:

Rural: The Mercantile (Alexandria)
Senior: North Harrison Senior Apartments (Shelbyville)
Special Needs: Oliver Apartments (South Bend)
Urban: South Bend Mutual Homes (South Bend)

CreatINg Places Logo

New CreatINg Places Campaigns Launched

Two new CreatINg Places program campaigns have launched: Courthouse Plaza in downtown Warsaw, and the Sarah T. Bolton Playground in Beech Grove. The campaigns are offered through the crowdfunding platform developed by Patronicity.

Valley House Flats Groundbreaking

We were pleased to attend the groundbreaking of Valley House Flats recently in Brookville. Not only will this new development provide 30 units of affordable housing, but it will provide housing across a variety of income levels. It will be located at the site of the former Valley House Hotel.

US Dept. of Education - IndyEast Peer Exchange

The U.S. Department of Education hosted a national event at the Thomas Greg Neighborhood Elementary School to discuss transformational initiatives in communities that involve education and generational poverty. IHCDA Executive Director Jacob Sipe was a panelist on the “Aligning Community Assets for the Success of Our Neighborhood Schools” session to talk about housing and our Moving Forward initiative.   


2018-19 My Community, My Vision Program participating communities announced

The 2018-19 My Community, My Vision (MCMV) participating communities were announced last week. Local Units of Governments (LUGs), with help from young adults, in Batesville, Huntingburg, Warsaw, North Putnam and Union County were selected to participate in this year’s program designed to engage young people in the community planning process.
