Assistance still available through the Energy Assistance Program

Hoosiers in need of assistance paying their winter heating bills can still sign up for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The winter assistance period, which began November 1st, offers qualifying Hoosiers a one-time payment to use towards their heat and electric bills. Participants may apply until May 18, 2018.

Flooding

February 2018 Statewide Flooding

In response to statewide flooding, IHCDA is working collaboratively with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security on disaster recovery, including working to help provide housing options for persons who have lost their homes as a result of the flooding. 2018 RHTC

2018 Rental Housing Tax Credits Announced

At the February IHCDA Board of Directors Meeting, chaired by Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, the Real Estate Department presented their recommendations for the 2018 RHTC Awards. The 17 projects selected combined for just over $14.4 million in RHTCs and $5.5 million in additional funding from the Development Fund, HOME and Housing Trust Fund. These developments, highlighted here, will provide over 800 additional units of affordable housing options for residents throughout Indiana.

Rainforest

Rainforest Play Park Grand Opening

On February 24, 2018 the Rainforest Play Park held its grand opening. The park features a multi-level play structure, an interactive pond, a bouldering wall, and other interactive features to engage children, spark their creativity, and promote exercise even when they can’t play outside. The project was brought to fruition through the crowdfunding platform developed by Patronicity, and run by the Wabash County YMCA as part of IHCDA's CreatINg Places program.

B-Line Heights

Groundbreaking of B Line Heights

Pedcor Investments, which participated in the 2015 Moving Forward Program, broke ground on B-Line Heights in Bloomington February 27th. This family apartment community will be located within the Showers Certified Technology Park (CTP). Key features include a renewable energy system, net-zero energy usage and solar integration. The site features several transportation options for tenants including the B-Line trail, public transportation and other pedestrian connections.

Horners

Mercantile Apartments Grand Opening and Horner's Midtown Market Ribbon Cutting

The Mercantile, an affordable housing development in Alexandria developed by Milestone Ventures, held their grand opening event February 28th in Alexandria. The event was followed by a ribbon cutting for Horner's Midtown Market. The mixed-use development is Indiana's first affordable apartment housing and grocery store.

Crowdfunding campaign launched for the 'Wabash Inclusive Playground' project

Wabash will soon have a new outdoor fully-inclusive playground, thanks to a recently launched crowdfunding campaign. The campaign, sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) through our CreatINg Places program and offered through the crowdfunding platform developed by Patronicity, is being run by a committee of local residents, in partnership with the Community Foundation of Wabash County.
