JAG Indiana students heading to national
leadership event in Washington, D.C.

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 28, 2022) - Jobs for America's Graduates students from five Indiana high schools have been selected as delegates to the NAG National Student Leadership Academy in Washington, D.C., Dec. 1-3.

"We are excited for our amazing students who will represent JAG Indiana on the national stage in Washington, D.C.," said Brianna Morse, Director of Youth Initiatives for the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. "All our students attending hold leadership roles in their local JAG programs and communities, and we know they will shine bright as crowning examples of the benefits of JAG programming and what JAG students can achieve."

JAG Indiana will be represented by the following student leaders:

  • Abbi Ankrom, president of Kokomo High School JAG;
  • Jeanne Chen, vice president of Avon High School JAG;
  • Kristina Owens, public relations chair of Scottsburg High School JAG;
  • Kiana Perry, president of Austin High School JAG; 
  • Quentin Stewart, vice president of Hammond Central High School JAG; and
  • Natalya Torres, president of Hammond Central High School JAG.

The National Student Leadership Academy is a capstone leadership experience for National Career Association state officers and local chapter leaders providing unique experiences through experiential learning, real-world applicability, and networking.

In addition to leadership development, JAG participants will explore the U.S. Capitol, visit with Capitol Hill leaders, participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and sightsee during the Twilight Monument Tour.

JAG Indiana, which is administered by DWD, is a state-based, national non-profit organization dedicated to helping high school students of promise who have experienced challenging or traumatic life experiences achieve success through graduation. JAG students receive adult mentoring while in school and one year of follow-up counseling after graduation. 

As a resiliency-building workforce program, JAG Indiana helps students learn in-demand employability skills and provides a bridge to post-secondary education and career advancement opportunities. Currently there are more than 125 JAG programs available throughout Indiana.

Since 2006, more than 40,000 students have participated in JAG Indiana with 94% graduating from high school.
