Qualified Manufacturing Workers Needed in Elkhart County
INDIANAPOLIS (June 8, 2017) – Elkhart County needs
qualified workers to serve its ever-expanding manufacturing industry. The
county is seeking individuals specifically with backgrounds in manufacturing to
fill an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 job openings.
The unemployment rate
in Elkhart County has reached a record low of between 2.5 and 2.8 percent. Mark
Dobson, the President of Elkhart County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) states that
the county needs thousands of qualified workers to fulfill current employer
needs. He encourages individuals from around the state who have been displaced
from prior employers to consider relocating to Elkhart County.
This influx of job opportunities are predominately from some
of Elkhart’s largest employers such as Lippert Components, Forest River RV
Corporation and Thor Industries. Lippert Components is a supplier of
recreational vehicles and residential housing industries. Forest River RV
Corporation is a recreational
vehicles, pontoon boats, cargo trailers and buses manufacturer. Thor Industries
is an RV manufacturer. The RV industry has experienced record growth over the
past couple of years.
Specific
jobs functions available include engineers, welders, plumbers, technicians,
electrical hook-ups and installers, builders, parts and shipping specialists,
customer service representatives, and supervisors and managers. Many of the jobs
are entry-level and offer on-the-job training. In addition, several of the
available positions are eligible for free training programs offered by WorkOne’s
WorkINdiana program that allows candidates to
earn a high school equivalency diploma and a career certification at the
same time.
