Up to 25,000 Qualified Manufacturing Workers Needed in Elkhart County

INDIANAPOLIS (June 8, 2017) – Elkhart County needs qualified workers to serve its ever-expanding manufacturing industry. The county is seeking individuals specifically with backgrounds in manufacturing to fill an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 job openings.

The unemployment rate in Elkhart County has reached a record low of between 2.5 and 2.8 percent. Mark Dobson, the President of Elkhart County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) states that the county needs thousands of qualified workers to fulfill current employer needs. He encourages individuals from around the state who have been displaced from prior employers to consider relocating to Elkhart County.

This influx of job opportunities are predominately from some of Elkhart’s largest employers such as Lippert Components, Forest River RV Corporation and Thor Industries. Lippert Components is a supplier of recreational vehicles and residential housing industries. Forest River RV Corporation is a recreational vehicles, pontoon boats, cargo trailers and buses manufacturer. Thor Industries is an RV manufacturer. The RV industry has experienced record growth over the past couple of years.

Specific jobs functions available include engineers, welders, plumbers, technicians, electrical hook-ups and installers, builders, parts and shipping specialists, customer service representatives, and supervisors and managers. Many of the jobs are entry-level and offer on-the-job training. In addition, several of the available positions are eligible for free training programs offered by WorkOne’s WorkINdiana program that allows candidates to earn a high school equivalency diploma and a career certification at the same time.

To learn more, eligible workers may obtain information from their local WorkOne Career Center (go to http://www.in.gov/dwd/WorkOne/locations.html to find the nearest WorkOne location), the Elkhart County EDC at 574-293-5627 or www.elkhartcountybiz.com.
