Calpipe Industries, Inc., Randy Dean of La Porte both received WorkOne Achievement Awards

INDIANAPOLIS (April 12, 2017) – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and its WorkOne Career Centers hosted their biennial WorkOne Achievement Awards on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Statehouse. The ceremony recognized the success of Hoosier employees and employers who have received services through WorkOne. Calpipe Industries, Inc. and Randy Dean of La Porte, Ind., were two of 22 recipients who received an employer award and an individual award, respectively. Both recipients were nominated for the award by their local WorkOne center.

Calpipe Industries, Inc. received a WorkOne Achievement Award for partnering with WorkOne to create employment opportunities for local Hoosiers.

Since 1998, Calpipe has supplied complete systems of stainless steel and PVC-coated conduit and fittings. Calbrite™, a division of Calpipe Industries, Inc., is the leading name in stainless steel conduit systems for harsh and corrosive environments. In the past year, the Hobart-based company has posted 12 job openings on Indiana Career Connect, and has hired three employees, all of whom are veterans. In addition, WorkOne was instrumental in connecting Calpipe with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), which has helped the company’s most recent expansion.

Randy Dean received a WorkOne Achievement Award for overcoming several employment barriers and personal challenges, and for pursuing a better life for himself.

Accepting the award on behalf of Dean, WorkOne Career Advisor Tracy Walsh is pictured right with Commissioner Steve Braun.

Dean worked with his local WorkOne for more than six months to find a job. He attended workshops, used Northwest Indiana’s Professional Network (NIPN) and met with his career advisor three to four times a week. His hard work and perseverance paid off when he was hired as the General Manager at CHEP Pallecon Solutions North America, a leading container pooler in South Bend.
