Carrier Corporation (Indianapolis) Workers Eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance
INDIANAPOLIS
(September 28, 2016) – The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently certified that workers who have been or may become totally or partially separated from Carrier Corporation (Indianapolis) are eligible to receive services under the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program. This includes onsite workers from Carrier Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, and leased onsite workers from Aerotek and Robert Half. The federal ruling applies to workers employed between August 18, 2015 and September 21, 2018.
The
TAA program is made available to workers who are displaced due to foreign
imports or shifts in production out of the country. It provides benefits
to help unemployed workers prepare for and obtain suitable employment. In
addition, weekly trade re-adjustment allowances may be payable to eligible
workers following the exhaustion of unemployment insurance benefits. Workers
may also be eligible for a variety of reemployment services, job search and
relocation allowances, health insurance premium assistance through the Health
Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC), and training. Workers age 50 or older may be
eligible for Reemployment Trade Adjustment Assistance (RTAA), a wage subsidy of
50 percent of the difference between their new salary and old salary, up to
$10,000.
Over the past several months, the Indiana Department of
Workforce Development (DWD) and its local partner, EmployIndy, have been
assisting Carrier employees through Rapid Response efforts. This program helps
displaced employees move toward a plan for re-employment, including resume
assistance, interview workshops and skills assessments. Carrier employees will
now be eligible for additional programs and services due to the TAA
certification.
Carrier employees are encouraged
to contact their current WorkOne case manager, call 317-228-0682 or email Carrier@employindy.org to be connected with additional reemployment services
available through TAA. They can also continue to take advantage of WorkOne
services that are available to all Hoosier jobseekers, including skills
assessments, training programs, résumé and interview preparation, job matching,
and much more.
