A diverging diamond interchange is a proven, innovative solution to improve safety for all forms of travel, typically at a much lower cost than traditional interchange designs. Since drivers transition from the right side of the road to the left and back, all left turns occur without having to cross opposing traffic. Eliminating this potential conflict point makes the interchange much safer than traditional designs.
Traffic congestion is also reduced by eliminating the left-turn phase from the traffic signal cycle, allowing traffic to flow through the interchange more efficiently. These are just a few of the reasons why INDOT is using the diverging diamond on several interchanges, including the new 52@65 interchange.
Spring is just around the corner, but winter weather can still occur. We want you to stay safe while driving in winter weather. Here are just a few tips from INDOT on driving in ice and snow.
- Remove any snow on your vehicle’s windows, lights, brake lights and signals.
- Before leaving home, find out about the driving conditions.
- If the weather is bad remember, Ice and Snow, Take it Slow.
Design and environmental review continue for the 52@65 team, and the next milestone will be the draft environmental document being completed. Once this document is ready, there will be a public hearing in Spring/Summer where the public can weigh in on the design.
The 52@65 project has its own dedicated Facebook and X accounts where we share additional information and graphics relating to the project. Be sure to follow us for the latest information!
