Lyford
Intersection project will close Saturday Morning
PARKE COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of
Transportation (INDOT) announces the Lyford intersection project on U.S. 41 and
State Road 163 will close Saturday, September 22 around 7 a.m. and reopen on
Monday evening, September 24, weather permitting. During this full closure of
the intersection the contractor will make the final tie-in and complete all the
surface asphalt work on the job.
The official detour follows U.S. 36 to State Road
63 and back to U.S. 41.
Once reopened on Monday, all traffic will be
controlled by stop signs. Work will continue in this area, primarily on
the shoulders and should be completed by October 1st.
The purpose of this project is to
enhance safety at the intersection. As part of the project, INDOT will
implement geometric and traffic control modifications at this location.
The existing, triangular 3-legged type intersection will be reconstructed to a
T-intersection with an all-way stop condition. A short left turn lane
will be included on the northbound approach.
White Construction Co. was
awarded this contract for $1.49 million. This project also includes a
small structure replacement on U.S. 36, 1.72 miles west of U.S. 41. This work
will occur next year.
INDOT reminds motorists to follow
the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when
traveling through a construction zone.
