Work Planned on S.R. 19 in Various Location in Elkhart County Traffic shift
scheduled for S.R. 19 at C.R. 52; resurface project and bridge maintenance
begin
ELKHART COUNTY – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces
a variety of work planned on S.R. 19 throughout Elkhart County.
Traffic shift planned for S.R. 19 at C.R. 52
INDOT contractors Walsh & Kelly,
Inc., are planning several traffic shifts as work continues on the added travel
lane project at C.R. 52 in the City of Nappanee. Beginning Monday, Aug. 1,
weather pending, the center lane of S.R. 19 at C.R. 52 will be closed, with
traffic shifted onto either side of the ongoing work.
Later this month, contractors will
again shift traffic. This time drivers will be shifted to the newly constructed
southbound lane and shoulder while the left turn lanes are built. During this
phase of construction, the east leg of C.R. 52 will be closed to through-traffic.
A 12-foot lane will be maintained on C.R. 52 for residents to access their
homes.
An advisory speed of 45 continues
to be in effect through the construction zone. INDOT reminds drivers to use
caution when traveling through any active construction zone.
The project is scheduled to be
completed in early November, weather permitting. It is being constructed in
conjunction with added left turn lanes at C.R. 38. The contract for the joint
project was awarded to Walsh & Kelly, Inc., for $2.9 million.

During the day, motorists are
cautioned to watch for lane shifts, stopped traffic and flaggers in the
construction zone. INDOT
reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through
any active work zone.
Work on the $2 million resurface contract awarded to Walsh
