Annual Public
Hearing Recap

The Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) recently hosted our annual public hearing which allows customers and stakeholders, like you, the chance to hear about our latest initiatives and give feedback on how we can improve agency policies, processes and procedures.

The hearing, held on May 26, featured an overview of the 2022 Individual Income Tax season, the final rollout
of Project NextDOR and DOR’s recent IndyStar Top Workplace recognition. We were joined by representatives from the Indiana CPA Society and Indiana Legal Services Low Income Tax Clinic who provided public comments, and 60 people who came to the hearing or watched it online.

If you missed this year’s hearing, a video and meeting minutes are now available on our website.

DOR Named Top Workplace by IndyStar

For the fourth consecutive year, DOR has been named an IndyStar Top Workplace in the large company category. This recognition is based on voluntary and anonymous feedback from DOR employees and is determined by benchmarking DOR’s results against similar size organizations that invest in culture, organizational health and employee engagement. This honor, coupled with two consecutive USA Top Workplace awards, is DOR’s sixth employee engagement award in the last four years.

“The Department of Revenue team pour themselves into the important work we do every day to serve Indiana and the Hoosiers that count on us. These wonderful Hoosiers have made DOR a very special place, and we are extremely proud to be recognized again as a top workplace by IndyStar and Energage,” shared Commissioner Bob Grennes.

Reminder: New E-Cigarette
Tax Registration

New Indiana state legislation (Indiana Code 6-7-4) was passed in early 2021 imposing an Electronic Cigarette Tax to be collected by retailers on the sale of open system containers and vapor products. This legislation requires retailers that sell these products to apply for an Electronic Cigarette Retail Dealer’s Certificate (ECG-1A) with DOR. Registration opens June 7, 2022, and the deadline to apply is July 1, 2022.

Retailers can submit an application via INTIME at intime.dor.in.gov. An INTIME User Guide for Electronic Cigarette Tax Registration is available to help customers through the process.

Fireworks Season is Upon Us

Summer is here – time to watch the rocket’s red glare and bombs bursting in air. For fireworks vendors, this means you can now file and pay your Fireworks Public Safety (FPS) tax using INTIME, DOR’s e-services portal via intime.dor.in.gov.

Businesses that sell fireworks must register for the public safety fee.

A 5% fireworks public safety fee must be collected by businesses that sell fireworks. The FPS tax covers items detonated or burned to produce a visible or audible effect and may include:

  • Firecrackers
  • Roman candles
  • Missile-type rockets
  • Wire sparklers
