As the current 2021 legislative session concludes, DOR is completing its review of legislation passed by the Indiana General Assembly, including the impacts on items such as the treatment of unemployment compensation when filing an Indiana 2020 individual income tax return. If you can wait, please do not file an amended return or call our customer service line regarding this issue as DOR will be issuing further guidance for our customers, tax practitioners and software developers within the next few business days.

The Auditor of State: Where Your Tax Refund Comes From

Auditor of State

This month DOR is featuring the Indiana Auditor of State (AOS). Many believe tax refunds come from DOR, however, your refund doesn’t come from DOR but from Indiana’s Chief Financial Officer, better known as the AOS. While DOR collects and processes all returns, the final check (or direct deposit) comes directly from the Auditor’s office. For specifics on the primary duties of the AOS, check out our Tax Talk Blog.
