Behind the Scenes

Bob Grennes

with Bob Grennes, COO

DOR's team of almost 700 hard-working Hoosiers is busy throughout the year providing service to customers and stakeholders across the state and U.S. Every part of the year introduces its own set of challenges, but one of the most exciting times is the annual individual tax season.

This six-month period (January – June) is when our team gets the opportunity to serve 3.4 million individual tax filers and the tax professionals who serve them. We also typically issue 2.2 million individual tax refunds during this time.

Our teams prepare and skillfully execute a number of peak seasons throughout the calendar year, but the individual tax season is the champion of all peak seasons – when an extremely high-volume of returns, payments and service requests arrive for us to process.

Our team members are located across the state and in all 13 locations, and they look forward to and truly enjoy this time of year because we get to serve so many of our fellow Hoosiers who are counting on our accurate, timely and helpful service.

Getting ready is challenging, exciting and exhausting. Since the completion of last tax season, DOR team members across the agency have been focused on getting ready by conducting lessons learned activities, analyzing feedback from our customers and gathering input from key partners and stakeholders to improve our systems, processes and training – all with a focus on being ready and being better.

Our core values include service, teamwork and continuous improvement. These values truly come to life during this exciting time as we work together to continuously improve the critical services we deliver to the individuals that are counting on us.

As our fellow Hoosiers get ready to celebrate the wonderful winter holiday season, rest assured that DOR team members are working hard to be ready to serve them in 2020.

Project NextDOR's Rollout 2 is Underway!

As you may have heard, Rollout 1 of Project NextDOR was a success! The first phase of DOR’s modernization effort was on time and under budget—words not often spoken in government.

Rollout 2 is set to launch on Sept. 8, 2020—so what are we working on now?

  • The Project NextDOR Team recently finished the “Definition Phase,” which means we have identified system behaviors as they currently exist, and how to potentially improve business processes.
  • Our next phase is "Base Configuration" where Rollout 2 definitions supporting core business processes will be configured, implemented and verified in a testing environment.

Do you or your organization have an interest in hearing from DOR and the project team in-person?

We can provide a demonstration of the INTIME portal and answer any project questions. Simply email Emily Boesen at EBoesen@dor.in.gov to schedule a meeting.
